Chris Paul and the Los Angeles Clippers are one of the most compelling case studies in all of professional basketball. An absence of postseason success suggests a split is on the horizon, but Paul’s ability to win regular season games with any semblance of a supporting cast is uncanny.
One can’t help but wonder if this will be the season he finally shakes the second-round curse.
In the 16 games since Blake Griffin went down with an injury, Paul has led the Clippers to a record of 13-3. He’s recorded 10 double-doubles in that frame, averaging 20.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.3 steals during the month of January.
Paul is still a superstar, and his steady rise up the rankings should reflect how hot he’s getting.
Paul led the Clippers to three wins in four games over the past week, playing a pivotal role in every outing. He posted 16 points, 13 assists, and six rebounds against the New York Knicks, had 26 points in a two-point win over the Indiana Pacers, and tallied 10 assists, three steals, and a clutch shot in a close win against the Atlanta Hawks.
Paul is back in superstar form, and the Clippers are thriving because of it—with or without their No. 1 scorer.
