45. Kobe Doesn’t Flinch

It’s human nature to flinch when a well-inflated cylindrical object is headed directly towards your face. Some may laugh at your reluctance to endure pain, but any normal human being can understand why people would be willing to show perceived weakness if it meant not getting hit in the face with a basketball.

Kobe Bryant isn’t a normal human being.

In terms of resume-building moments, this is a relatively meaningless instance in the history of Bryant’s illustrious career. It was an immeasurable incident that will not play a factor in determining Bryant’s place amongst the all-time legends.

True as that all may be, this play embodied everything that makes Bryant special.

Bryant’s fearlessness as a scorer and relentless competitive fire have endeared him to millions of fans around the world. This play added to the folk tale that is his reputation.

Bigger defenders, physical enforcers, incoming basketballs—Bryant won’t back down from any of them.
