Kobe Bryant: 50 Greatest Moments of Black Mamba’s Career
30. Game Sliders
Kobe Bryant is known for being a clutch player, and this slideshow has, hopefully, established that. With a full arsenal of game-winning shots on YouTube, it’s easy for some of his greatest highlights to be lost in the mix.
If you haven’t seen Bryant turn up the game sliders against the Toronto Raptors, you’re missing out—and no, I’m not talking about that game against the Raptors.
For those unfamiliar, an option exists in the NBA 2K video game franchise to alter, “Game Sliders.” One of the options players have is to increase the likelihood of shot attempts falling from specific areas of the floor.
Bryant was a real life game sliders adjustment against the Raptors on March 8, 2013.
It wasn’t just that Bryant hit three consecutive obscenely clutch shots to send the game to overtime; it was how difficult the shots were to even attempt. It wasn’t just that he hit three obscenely clutch and difficult shots; it was the fact that Toronto scored after each of the first two, thus placing an even greater burden on Bryant’s clutch shoulders.
Bryant finished that game with 41 points and 12 assists. Most importantly, he got Los Angeles the win in my personal favorite memory of No. 24.
