Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves have one of the brightest futures in the NBA. Though they are 14-31, they have the past two No. 1 overall picks in the NBA Draft and they both are held in high regard amongst some of the league’s best.

Following a meeting with the Lakers last season, Kobe Bryant said that Andrew Wiggins reminds him a lot of himself. That’s quite a compliment coming from Bryant, who doesn’t dish out compliments that often. As if that isn’t enough to be excited about, Kevin Durant said that Karl-Anthony Towns is “going to be a Hall of Famer in this league,” according to CBS Sports.

The young Wolves have loads of other good, young talent. Zach LaVine, Shabazz Muhammad, Gorgui Dieng and rookie Tyus Jones all have bright futures ahead of themselves. In fact, if this group sticks together with Ricky Rubio at point guard, the sky is the limit for this team. Disregarding the style of play, the Timberwolves are set-up to burst on to the scene like the Oklahoma City Thunder or Golden State Warriors, through drafting their marquee players and developing them.

The Timberwolves only have about $4.9 million coming off the books this coming offseason, but the trade-off is having young talent for a longer period of time. Adding another high lottery pick is only going to increase the Wolves talent and adds another piece to the puzzle. If the Wolves find a way to win and have a pick 13th or worse, then the Celtics will claim their first rounder.

The mastermind of all of the Wolves drafting success, Flip Saunders, has set the team up for a very bright future. With interim head coach Sam Mitchell struggling this season, it appears as if he will not be retained. That would make the Wolves the most attractive coaching position in the offseason and Walton should be interested.
