Phoenix Suns: 5 Silver Linings In A Lost Season
2. Extra Ping Pong Balls
We shouldn’t beat around the bush: feeding the younger players minutes is great, and also necessary considering how many injuries this team is dealing with at the moment. But a developmental season also comes with the added benefit of bolstering Phoenix’s standing on draft day.

At 14-31, the Suns are currently tied with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the fourth worst record in the NBA. Considering this team has lost 15 of its last 17 games and is still dealing with injuries to Knight, Keef and Leuer, Phoenix might struggle to reach 20 wins before the season is over.
If that’s the case, general manager Ryan McDonough will have another opportunity to win back the fans with what should be a top-five draft pick.
For all the trades McDonough has made that looked great on paper but never panned out personnel-wise, he’s been excellent in the draft. In 2013, he turned the fifth and 29th overall picks into Alex Len and Archie Goodwin. In 2014, he used the 14th overall pick to select T.J. Warren, and this year, he drafted Devin Booker at No. 13.
Those four players now join Bledsoe as the team’s five most intrinsic assets moving forward. Give McDonough another top-five pick and he’ll continue to bolster an extremely young core for Suns fans to feel excited about for the future. If the losses keep piling up with the young players competing, there’s no shame in that situation from any angle.
