Why do the Chicago Bulls do this?

The Bulls need to push the issue. Pau Gasol is playing at an All-Star level, Jimmy Butler has ascended to stardom, and believe it or not, Derrick Rose hasn’t been a handicap the past month. All hands on deck, the Bulls are in a position to take a real run at the NBA championship come June. Or they will be, should they solidify the core and add a little more offense to the rotation.

Nikola Mirotic has fallen in and out of the rotation and becomes expendable with the superior Gallinari coming in return. They give up Bobby Portis, which sucks because the kid is talented, but that is the price you pay for a deadline deal. The Bulls get the best player and head into the playoffs with a very scary and balanced starting unit.

Why do the Denver Nuggets do this?

I’m very high on Portis, he’s a player that the Nuggets and their fan base could be excited about growing up with the rest of their young core. Mirotic is a role player, but he’s a serviceable player who can give you size and shooting in small doses. Joakim Noah‘s expiring deal also gives the Nuggets some money to play with come this offseason.
