Ryan Anderson has already played for Van Gundy earlier in his career with the Orlando Magic. During that stint, Dwight Howard was coming into his own in the league, similar to Andre Drummond. With an identical situation, it would make sense for Van Gundy to pursue a deal for Anderson.

A deal may be more likely than one could imagine. According to Zach Lowe on The Lowe Post podcast, the Pistons will target Anderson during free agency in 2016.

“They’re going to look at Stan’s old friend Ryan Anderson,” Lowe said.

Anderson has started six of the 40 games he has played in this season. He has been great offensively, averaging 16.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He has a 56.0 true shooting percentage and is shooting 43.8 percent from the field with a 38.3 three-point shooting percentage.

With his 6-foot-10, 240 pound frame, Anderson has the ability to play small forward and use his size or play power forward and use his athleticism. He has 2.0 offensive win shares, and is on pace to have 4.0 for the season. He has a 23.6 usage rate and remarkably only a 9.7 turnover rate.

Van Gundy’s final season in Orlando was also Anderson’s final season. During the 2011-12 season, Anderson started all 61 games he played in. It was the breakout point of his career, where he averaged 16.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

With Eric Gordon out for 4-6 weeks with a fractured right ring finger, according to Pelicans.com, the Pelicans could use Jennings as a point guard or a combo guard. Since Gordon’s injury, point guard Norris Cole has seen a minutes increase. Jennings would provide an upgrade over Cole at this point.

Anderson has a PER of 17.1 and Jennings has a 12.6 PER. ESPN’s Trade Machine projects that the Pistons would gain four wins by this move.
