1. Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors

Last Rank: No. 1

Position: Point Guard

Age: 27

Season Averages: 33.9 MPG, 29.9 PPG, 6.5 APG, 5.3 RPG, 2.1 SPG, 4.8 3PM

Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors have suffered two losses over the course of the past five games. At the back end of that stretch was a pair of blowout victories that left all concerns in the past.

Behind Curry’s influence, Golden State demolished both the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers—potential opponents in the NBA Finals.

During the Warriors’ three wins over the past week, Curry scored 26 points in 30 minutes, 35 points in 28 minutes, and tallied 25 points and 11 assists in 34 minutes. He scored 38 points during a lopsided 113-95 loss to the Detroit Pistons.

It’s hard to knock a player for nearly scoring 40 points, no matter the outcome, and I won’t be the one who tries.

Curry has been No. 1 since the first edition of these rankings, and that’s unlikely to change any time soon. The lead he’s built over the No. 2 player is bordering on insurmountable, although anything is possible with 39 games remaining on the schedule.

More hoops habit: Is the next Stephen Curry waiting in the wings of the 2016 NBA Draft?

Until further notice, Curry is a mile ahead of the pack in the race for MVP.
