Power Forward

The power forward position has yielded consistency for Stan Van Gundy’s squad this season. Starter Ersan Ilyasova and backup Anthony Tolliver play similarly, which contributes to the position’s consistency.

Ilyasova may not have more consistent numbers, regardless of offense or defense. His OBPM is 1.0 and his DBPM is 0.8. He also has 1.7 offensive win shares and 1.5 defensive win shares. His consistency has helped the team on both ends of the court.

His ability to stretch the floor and hit three-pointers has been good for the Pistons offense. He’s connecting on 37.8 percent of his three-point attempts. His true shooting percentage is 53.0 percent, which is solid for his 18.1 usage rate.

Ilyasova and Tolliver are both willing to fight for loose balls and draw charges, both embody the Pistons’ moto of “Detroit grind” and “Detroit hustle”.

Tolliver differs from Ilyasova in that he’s played consistently well on defense and has been consistently average on offense. But both their games mimic one another’s.

Tolliver is a three-point specialist, who is hitting 35.8 percent from three-point range. He has 1.0 offensive win shares, despite only having an OBPM of 0.1. He is also leading the league in turnover percentage, with 5.3 percent.

Defense is where Tolliver shines. He has 0.9 defensive win shares and a DBPM of 0.8. His ability to step up and draw a charge saves the Pistons an extra possession, which is something that goes unnoticed in the box score.

Overall, the Pistons power forwards have played consistently well, and that’s what the Pistons need from them this year.
