Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets Trade

Why does Chicago do this?

They want to win, and while they should probably be looking to deal Derrick Rose, there’s still a regime who believes in him. The Bulls go all in here, trading two of their best young assets in Bobby Portis and Doug McDermott. That being said, this is a team that really should’ve beat the Cavaliers last year, faltering on the cusp of something special.

The Bulls hoped to be significantly better offensively this season but the honest truth is they aren’t. The Bulls are playing a more up-tempo style of play but they are only averaging one more point per game than they were the year prior.

More hoops habit: Every NBA Team's Best Bargain Contract

Lopez and Pau Gasol would form a fearsome tandem, a tandem reminiscent of Andrew Bynum and Gasol with the Los Angeles Lakers in previous years. Their collective play would take pressure off of Jimmy Butler and Rose to supply all the offense on any given night.

Why does Brooklyn do this?

The Nets get a hell of a player in Portis, clear cap with Joakim Noah, and a potential long-term contributor in McDermott. Portis has looked very impressive in limited time with the Bulls, and the recent first round pick gives Brooklyn a young stud to place some faith in as they struggle through the next few seasons. McDermott is a killer shooter and could benefit in an expanded role with Brooklyn. The chances of Noah staying in Brooklyn are slim, but should he leave they did clear a lot of space on the books.
