Sasha Vujacic

Speaking of wily veterans that can’t really play but may have something to contribute anyway, Sasha Vujacic! Just look at the video below for proof of the first half of the last sentence.

Sasha is essentially little more than a player-coach, having inked a contract just before the season started after playing in a grand total of only two NBA games from 2012-2015. While he did start a few games early in the season, Vujacic now plays only 12.8 MPG, essentially acting as another assistant to Derek Fisher for the most part.

Despite only shooting 28 percent from the field, I actually like having Sasha on the team. The triangle offense is incredibly complex to learn and while Fisher’s version relies less on the mechanics of the system than Phil Jackson’s did, it’s good to have a guy that played under Jackson for six seasons.

This one is pretty much a toss-up right now. The Knicks will likely wait until after the initial free agency bonanza to decide on Sasha’s future in New York, seeing whether or not they’ll have a roster spot open before deciding on whether or not it’s worth having Vujacic on the bench for another year. Even if he doesn’t re-sign as a player, it wouldn’t surprise me if Sasha returned as a coach or trainer in the future.

Verdict: Toss-up
