The Boston Celtics are flush with solid interior players who collectively get the job done. What Boston lacks is a player who can consistently take over games as an interior scoring threat.

Greg Monroe can be that player.

Monroe may not be the player who pushes the Celtics into championship contention, but he can solidify their place as a postseason team. That’s the primary goal in Boston, as Danny Ainge already has a potential Top 5 pick on the way in the form of the Brooklyn Nets’ unprotected selection.

Thus, gambling on Monroe wouldn’t be as big of a risk for Boston as it would be for other teams.

Boston has an endless supply of interior depth and the undeniable need for a player who can complement Isaiah Thomas as a consistent isolation scorer. Boston has no trouble putting points on the board, but a by-committee approach tends to lose steam in the postseason without a star to maintain the pace.

With an abundance of draft picks and tradable players, Boston may be the most likely destination for Monroe if a trade is to transpire.
