No. 3 Phoenix Suns
The Suns’ train has totally come off its tracks. The Markieff Morris saga continues, debates on whether or not head coach Jeff Hornacek should be fired midseason are still amongst us, and Eric Bledsoe‘s season-ending knee injury put a fork in any chance the team had of staying relevant in the playoff picture.
With a 13-28 record, the Suns sit in 13th place in the West. It’s only right to consider tanking and winning the No. 1 pick if there are any hopes of being competitive in future years. They took a chance this past summer on moving some players in order to persuade LaMarcus Aldridge to sign, but that ended up backfiring into the Morris family debate and now what looks like a very ugly contract tied up with Tyson Chandler (four years, $52 million).
It would be interesting to see how Simmons would fit next to Brandon Knight and Bledsoe. As both are two guards who like to have the ball in their hands, Simmons would probably play the least amount of point-forward if the Suns drafted him. Then again, it is unpredictable if the Suns will blow up the roster this summer and trade major assets as they did last season with Goran Dragic and Isaiah Thomas.
