NBA: 5 All-Star Bench Players Of The East
PF – Derrick Williams, New York Knicks
2015-16 Statistics- 8.7 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 0.8 APG, 44.7 FG%
Derrick Williams was the second overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft and came in with high expectations. After spending three seasons with Minnesota, Williams signed with Sacramento and played with the Kings for two years. The Kings chose not to re-sign Williams and by this time, he was already viewed as one of the biggest drafts busts of recent history.
Now with the New York Knicks, Williams looks for a resurgence in his career and he is going in the right direction thus far. Head coach Derek Fisher has been very inconsistent with the rotation and as a result, Williams hasn’t been able to develop a rhythm and a mindset of when he will be called to go in, but when he is needed, he answers. In the most recent game against the Nets, Williams scored a career-high 31 points and pulled down seven assists in 31 minutes.
The Knicks have responded to last season’s debacle better than most could’ve imagined before the season started. With a 20-21 record, they sit in 10th place and just one game out of the playoff picture. It actually won’t be surprising if they remain in this area of the standings until the end of the season and make for yet another exciting playoff fight for one of the last slots in the conference.
