Verdict: Hot

DeMarcus Cousins and the Sacramento Kings are in the process of moving out of their own way. The losses are still piling up at a significantly faster rate than the wins, but in a top-heavy Western Conference, that’s been somewhat forgiven.

Individually, Cousins has taken it upon himself to dominate games.

Cousins is averaging 32.4 points and 13.6 rebounds over the past five games, which is reason enough to be impressed. Over the past week, he posted 29 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists on 8-of-12 shooting in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers, and exceeded 30 points and 10 rebounds against the Golden State Warriors and New Orleans Pelicans.

Statistically, Cousins is a monster.

Cousins is slowly improving his efficiency, which is a very promising trend for Kings basketball. He was shooting below 42 percent from the field at one point this season, but is taking more responsible shots in recent outings.

The troubling sign is that Sacramento has lost six of its past nine games.
