The Dallas Mavericks have started off a surprising 22-16, smashing most predictions made before the season began.

At fifth in the Western Conference, the Mavs have used an electric offense, backed up by a solid defense, to compete with the best of the best by beating teams like the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls.

Throughout this first portion of the season, the Mavs have managed to build winning streaks of four and six and they’ve received unexpected production from Zaza Pachulia, who is averaging a double-double and has a total of 19 on the season (tied for sixth in the league).

Wesley Matthews is another player that is having success despite coming off of surgery that repaired a torn Achilles. He currently has played the most minutes on the team and has become the team’s best defender for guards and forwards.

Dirk Nowitzki is also having a great season when he was not supposed to be the top option. His 17.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game have proved his ability to defy his age of 37 years old as he continues to operate at a high level.

Though the Mavs have had success as a team, they are about to start on their hardest stretch of the season. They will need to use their bright spots in order to deal with a brutal week-long streak of games against contenders.
