Dave Joerger

This one seems like a terrible decision, but Dave Joerger has been on the hot seat for a long time. The Memphis Grizzlies are a franchise at a crossroads. Their grit and grind mentality is working well enough to leave them in the middle of the Western Conference playoff hunt at 20-18.

But it’s not working well enough to get them any better than that. Memphis is currently 2-8 against the five teams higher than they are in the West. They got straight-up embarrassed by the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder, losing by 50 and 37 to those two teams respectively.

Rumors of Joerger’s firing have slowed down considerably in January, but the Grizzlies could be one huge loss or cold spell away from welcoming a new coach, and a new philosophy. They’re already moving towards that direction seeing as Jeff Green has been starting in place of Zach Randolph recently.

Joerger has built a reputation as a good coach and probably wouldn’t be unemployed for long, but that doesn’t mean his seat is any colder. The Grizzlies could even go all-in on defense and bring in Tom Thibodeau if they felt like it.
