The Brooklyn Nets are dangerously close to hitting the reset button. Without a first-round draft pick in 2016, however, Billy King’s only option is to appease owner Mikhail Prokhorov by building a team with a solid future and foundation in 2015-16.

Given Prokhorov’s proclivity to favor Russian players and personnel, Brooklyn’s interest in Mozgov would make a great deal of sense.

Prokhorov is rumored to be interested in replacing general manager Billy King with CSKA Moscow president Andrey Vatutin. Those Russian ties don’t guarantee the signing of Russian players, but it’s a conceivable result given Prokhorov’s past decisions, including the signing of Andrei Kirilenko.

The Nets have an All-Star center in Brook Lopez, but an absence of depth at the 5 suggests Mozgov could be the answer.

Andrea Bargnani is the current backup, but he’s playing just 13.9 minutes per game. Brooklyn is more likely to be in the market for a point guard due to Jarrett Jack‘s injury, but if it can provide the Cleveland Cavaliers with fair compensation, Mozgov is an option.

For defensive-minded head coach Lionel Hollins, Mozgov would be the ideal backup center.
