Buy: DeMarcus Cousins Loves Winning

The Sacramento Kings closed out 2015 with an incredibly disappointing loss to the lowly Philadelphia 76ers, but since the turn of the year, they’ve flipped the switch.

If it wasn’t for the aforementioned Deron Williams three-pointer that denied them in Double OT, the Kings would be riding a four-game win streak right now. They’re averaging 123 points through that span, and even picked up an impressive win on the road against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

It’s a tiny sample size against opponents of mixed caliber, but the one constant has been that the Kings have looked likely to win throughout the majority of all four of those games. It’s called being competitive, and it’s something that Sacramento and their star player DeMarcus Cousins don’t get to experience very often.

Averaging over 25 points and 10 rebounds a night like Cousins is for his season is impressive. What’s even more impressive is how a run like the Kings have had of late not only sees Cousins fuel the team, but draw from the energy in the team’s play in equal measure.

In his last four games, Boogie is averaging 32.3 points, 13.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, while shooting 53.6 percent from the field, 46.7 from deep and 80 percent from the free throw line.

With his name frequently swirling in trade rumors, much has been spoken about the impact and reaction that could come from Cousins if he was to find himself in a better situation.

He’s a fiery competitor, there’s no doubt about that, but what if he gets even better with the chance to win in front of him? It’s not something he’s often got a chance to see for sustained periods of time with the Kings, but it sure would be interesting to find out.
