Solely based on how the season has transpired thus far, Paul Millsap and the Atlanta Hawks aren’t going to win 60 games again. It’s entirely possible, but Atlanta’s been more experimental in finding its identity than it was a season ago.
Records be damned, Millsap and the Hawks have the tools to be a better team.
Millsap has been the catalyst for just about everything that’s worked in Atlanta. He’s been a key contributor in every statistical area, serving as a positive influence on both ends of the floor—something that very few contemporary power forwards can genuinely claim.
At No. 12 in Win Shares and No. 14 in Player Efficiency Rating, the advanced metrics work heavily in Millsap’s favor.
This past week wasn’t he or the Hawks’ best, but it was limited to two games. Millsap has earned a Top 20 ranking over the course of the season, and Atlanta has quietly won seven of its past 10 outings.
He may have slipped to No. 20, but Millsap is well on his way to a third career All-Star Game appearance.
