Andre Drummond’s evolution into Stan Van Gundy’s latest superstar center is well underway. He leads the NBA in rebounding by a landslide, is one of the most productive scorers at his position, and is emerging as a true defensive anchor.

If Drummond could just sink his free throws, he’d be one of the league’s elite players.

Free throw shooting shouldn’t be this influential, but enough is enough. Drummond went 4-of-24 from the charity stripe over the past week, and that cannot be ignored.

Detroit managed to go 3-1, but Drummond’s dreadful free throw shooting disrupts the Pistons’ offensive flow in far too many games to write it off as a non-factor in these rankings.

For as poor as his free throw shooting is, most other facets of Drummond’s game have been tremendous. He’s currently producing at an all-time pace as a rebounder, and has developed into a dangerous scorer with a strong face-up game.

One simply can’t help but wonder how Detroit would fare in the playoffs without a somewhat efficient output from Drummond at the free throw line.
