Portland Trail Blazers: Al-Farouq Aminu

2015-16 Salary: $8 million
2016-17 Salary: $7.7 million
2017-18 Salary: $7.3 million
2018-19 Salary: $7 million

Honorable Mention: Ed Davis

Al-Farouq Aminu’s summer contract extension of four years and $30 million was eye-opening to many who didn’t understand how salaries would be inflated by the increasing cap. But an average annual salary of $7.5 million is doable for a two-way player of his talents, especially for a Portland Trail Blazers team that’s trying to find pieces to put around Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum.

Aminu isn’t a breakout star by any means, but he’s averaging a respectable 10.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting 36.4 percent from three-point territory. He’s also the team’s best wing defender and at 25 years old, he has plenty of time to improve moving forward.

McCollum’s ultra-cheap contract would be a no-brainer if he weren’t still on his rookie agreement, and Ed Davis doesn’t quite play enough for his three-year, $18 million extension to get the nod here. It’s ironic, but the first surprising contract extension announced last summer has turned out to be one of its most reasonable bargains.
