New Year’s Resolution: Finish Against Length

The Maryland Terrapins are off to an outstanding start, and point guard Melo Trimble is the player to be thanked for that. Maryland has other NBA prospects, including Jake Layman and the previously praised Diamond Stone, but Trimble is the floor general.

As for his NBA upside, Trimble garners praise as both a future star and a player destined to be a reserve.

Trimble does it all, providing reason for intrigue as a slashing scorer, facilitator, ball-hawk, and 3-point shooter. He can break opponents down in isolation, finish in transition, spot up from distance, and create offense through his defense.

The primary criticisms of Trimble pertain pertains to his physical build. He has a relatively underwhelming 6’2″ wingspan and isn’t very explosive, which has led to his experiencing trouble finishing against length both in transition and as a shooter.

Trimble has the look of a future star, but he must prove throughout 2015-16 that he can overcome the presence of bigger and more athletic defenders.
