New Year’s Resolution: Better Decision Making

A season ago, Timothe Luwawu was pegged as a potential first-round selection in the 2015 NBA Draft. Rather than declaring, he opted to spend another year overseas, and the gamble has paid off.

Many now project Luwawu as a Top 20 selection, and it’s not hard to see why.

Luwawu has spent 2015-16 addressing his biggest flaws. Previously labeled as a raw offensive player, he’s improved to the point of being a consistent 3-point shooter—from 25.9 percent in 2014-15 to 36.0 percent in 2015-16—and a determined playmaker who keeps his eyes up with the ball in his hands.

For as far as he’s come offensively, there are still issues. He’s averaging more turnovers than assists, and is shooting just 42.7 percent on 2-point field goals—two numbers that accurately illustrate his erratic decision making.

He’s an elite defensive prospect and an elite athlete cut from the same cloth as fellow French standout Nicolas Batum, but Luwawu must refine his offensive discipline in order to succeed in the NBA.
