New Year’s Resolution: Bend Knees and Tighten Handle

Turkish shooting guard Furkan Korkmaz has been making waves on the international scene. He’s still developing his game and frame, but Korkmaz is a part of the European revolution of young and explosive perimeter playmakers who finish above the rim.

For an idea of where his draft stock is headed, Korkmaz is essentially 2016’s Mario Hezonja.

He doesn’t see much playing time—18-year-olds in major European leagues rarely do—but he’s already established himself as an offensive asset. He’s a solid jump shooter with 3-point range and a midrange game, and an athletic finisher who finish around or over defenders.

One of the primary issues for Korkmaz is that he lacks the ball-handing ability to consistently create space and take NBA-caliber defenders in isolation. He has poor posture when he dribbles, slumping over without bending his knees and leaving the ball in a position to be stolen.

Thus, Korkmaz’s New Year’s Resolution is to tighten his handle and thus improve his half court offense.
