New Year’s Resolution: Make Those Free Throws

Watching Demetrius Jackson bounce back from an erratic freshman season has been delightful. His work ethic and in-game motor have propelled him to the ranks of the lottery picks, and his combination of skill and athleticism create intriguing upside.

He may or may not reach this level in the NBA, but Jackson’s play is often reminiscent of two-time All-Star Damian Lillard.

Once Jackson gets an angle on his man, it’s over. His change of motion is almost impossible to contain, and his lethality as a shooter is more than enough to keep the opposition honest.

With an intriguing level of development as a facilitator, Jackson has silenced some of the critics who questioned his ability to run point. He takes care of the ball, excels in running the pick-and-roll, and can both score and facilitate coming off of screens.

Shooting 70.2 percent from the free throw line simply will not suffice for a point guard at any level.
