New Year’s Resolution: Stabilize Shooting Form

Henry Ellenson has all of the tools to be the 2016 NBA Draft’s version of Kevin Love. He’s an offensively versatile player whose size, strength, fundamentals as a rebounder and underrated athleticism make him one of the most difficult prospects in the country to overcome.

Moving forward, Ellenson’s primary goal should be to stabilize his shooting form.

Ellenson operates from the low block, utilizing his big and powerful frame to back his man down as he maturely waits for his teammates to move around him. He’s a skilled passer, a selfless playmaker, and a dangerous scorer who can drive, face-up from midrange, finish with a baby hook off glass, or step out beyond the 3-point line.

Ellenson doesn’t move as well off-ball as Love does, but he’s shown signs of being a much better defender. His shooting stroke is also less consistent than Love’s, as the Marquette Golden Eagles star too often rises up without having set his feet.

When Ellenson perfects his shooting motion, he’ll have the chance to work his way into Top 5 consideration as a center who’s tailor made for the current era of NBA basketball.
