Top Four Shooting Guards

  1. Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors ($7,400) vs. Denver Nuggets
  2. J.J. Redick, L.A. Clippers ($5,000) vs. Philadelphia 76ers
  3. Will Barton, Denver Nuggets ($7,200) vs. Golden State Warriors
  4. Wesley Matthews, Dallas Mavericks ($5,100) vs. New Orleans Pelicans

Rationale:

  • The Nuggets are fifth-worst overall vs. opposing 2 guards, but as with Draymond Green, Thompson becomes a lower-risk option if Curry returns this evening; however, since he costs $2K less it’s still probably worth a speculative investment to see if he can duplicate the 44.4 fantasy point night he enjoyed in Houston on New Year’s Eve when Curry sat out.
  • The Sixers are fourth-most generous to SGs over their last 10 games and Redick has eclipsed the 26 fantasy point threshold in three of his past four outings. Last season the former Blue Devil averaged 18.0 PPG in the two-game series vs. Philly, which was just better than his 16.4 PPG overall.
  • Barton’s 19.0 PPG in two meetings with Golden State this season are ahead of his 16.7 PPG overall, but his cost has risen to the point where he needs to be scrutinized more closely, especially since he is a bench player. Accordingly, Barton has surpassed 38 fantasy points just five times in his last 10 games so it’s truly a 50-50 proposition as to whether he will continue to return value. Indeed, his cost’s rapid ascension on FanDuel NBA is similar to what transpired with the New York Knicks’ Kristaps Porzingis, so it’s feasible that he’s also at the stage where his price has become less sustainable.
  • Matthews is averaging 24.7 FPPG over his last two contests and the Pelicans are second-worst overall versus his position.
