Charlotte Hornets: 5 Best Decisions Of 2015
By Jon Shames
4. Signing Jeremy Lin
Jeremy Lin hasn’t had the success in Charlotte that many hoped he would after a dominant preseason performance, but he’s still made good use of his 25 minutes per game, and is posting averages of 11.8 points and 3.2 assists through the 30 games he’s appeared in.
The Hornets signed Lin to a minimum contract this summer, and for that price, he’s well worth it. Even on his worst nights, Lin is still a dynamic backcourt player that defenses have to constantly watch for. He’s been a streaky shooter this season and is sometimes guilty of trying to do too much, but Lin is making the Hornets better when he does play, as evidenced by his +3.5 point differential on the season.
With Kemba Walker in the midst of a breakout season, Lin’s chances of starting consistently don’t look great, but he seems to be embracing the sixth man role here in Charlotte, especially with the team winning. It’s unclear whether Charlotte will be a long-term home for Lin, whose contract expires after this year, but Charlotte made a good move by adding him for this season.
