NBA: 10 Players Failing To Live Up To Expectations In 2015-16
9. Danny Green
Right now, the San Antonio Spurs are the only perceivable threat to the Golden State Warriors’ reign in this league. The Spurs boast the league’s stingiest defense by a staggering 4.5 points per 100 possessions, they’ve got Kawhi Leonard playing at a (secondary) MVP level and LaMarcus Aldridge — despite lower individual numbers — is fitting in well on both ends of the floor.
But if there’s one thing the Spurs are lacking, it’s Danny Green being able to make shots again. Last year, the Spurs’ sharpshooter averaged a career high 11.7 points per game while drilling 41.8 percent of his career high 5.6 three-point attempts per game.
This year, after signing a four-year, $40 million summer extension that many felt was a major discount, Green’s numbers are down to 7.0 points per game on 35.5 percent shooting from the field and 30.1 percent shooting from three-point range. His defense alongside Kawhi on the wing is still exquisite, but the Spurs may eventually need his shots to start falling.
