The NBA’s 50 Greatest Duos Of All-Time
By Duncan Smith
4. Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Los Angeles Lakers
Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the Los Angeles Lakers ran roughshod over the NBA in the 1980’s, winning five championships between 1980 and 1989.
The Lakers won those five titles, and went to the NBA finals an addition three times. In the illustrious history of the Los Angeles Laker franchise, the 1980s of Magic and Kareem were one of their most dominant eras. The Lakers went 591-204 in that decade, good for a winning percentage of 74.3 percent.
Kareem finished his career with 38,387 points scored, which was the most in NBA history. His best years were in his younger days with the Milwaukee Bucks, but he made for the perfect one-two punch with the young Magic.
While Magic’s career ended prematurely after being diagnosed with HIV, he was unquestionably one of the best point guards in NBA history, and still is considered to be so to this day.
