10. Wilt Chamberlain and Jerry West, Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers of Wilt Chamberlain and Jerry West’s days were tremendous teams for the five years they were together from 1968-73, but even though they did win a championship, they were utterly snakebitten in the late stages of the playoffs.

Those Lakers lost three times in the Finals to their nemesis, the Boston Celtics. The Celtics were the ultimate juggernaut to end all juggernauts in the 1960s and 1970s, and the Lakers across many eras came up short against them.

In addition to their futility against the Celtics in the Finals, the Lakers were also defeated in the Western Conference Finals by the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar-led Milwaukee Bucks in 1970-71.

In spite of the repeated playoff near-misses that Chamberlain and West had in those five years together, the Lakers had a record of 278-130 in that era, and sported a winning percentage of 68.1 percent.
