The NBA’s 50 Greatest Duos Of All-Time
By Duncan Smith
17. Maurice Lucas and Bill Walton, Portland Trail Blazers
Maurice Lucas was a journeyman in the NBA, with stops with the Portland Trail Blazers, Phoenix Suns, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Seattle Supersonics.
It’s safe to say he never had it better than he did in his first NBA stop in Portland (he returned in his final season in 1987-88, we’ll discount that campaign) with Bill Walton and his Trail Blazers.
In that four-year stint from 1976-77 through 1979-80 (the first two of which were with Walton before he moved on to the San Diego Clippers), the Blazers went 190-138, made the playoff all four years and won the NBA championship their very first year together.
Over the course of their two years together, the Blazers went 107-57, Walton recorded a stat line of 18.8 points and 13.8 rebounds per game, and Lucas recorded a line of 18.4 points and 10.3 rebounds.
