NBA Christmas: A Gift For Every Team’s Wish List
Boston Celtics
The Brooklyn Nets Continuing To Stink
General manager Danny Ainge is still on the lookout for a star player on the trade market, but I don’t see the Boston Celtics finding that player before the season is over. The Celts need offense, but on a roster with so many interchangeable, useful parts, it’s hard to figure out how he’d put all those assets to good use in a deal.
With Boston likely heading back to the playoffs behind an elite defense, but lacking the star power to truly contend in the East, this team is still a few pieces away from being a legitimate force. Luckily, Boston has the luxury of competing for a top playoff seed AND enjoying what will likely be a top-five draft pick.
Thanks to that Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce trade in 2013, the Celtics own the Brooklyn Nets’ first round draft pick in 2016, the right to swap picks in 2017 and their first round pick outright in 2018. The more the Nets (currently at 8-21, the third worst record in the NBA) stink, the better Boston’s odds at a top-three pick.
