7. Kawhi Leonard and Tim Duncan, San Antonio Spurs

An emerging superstar and an ageless wonder are quietly dominating the NBA this season. However, you would never know about it because of all the well-deserved attention the Golden State Warriors are receiving.

Duncan is in his age 39 season and his 18th year in the NBA, and has defied Father Time better than anyone has before. His overall stats will not wow you at a modest (by Duncan’s standards) 9.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in just over 25 minutes a night, but he has remained a very efficient player throughout every stage of his career.

Duncan knows how to win, and is great leader for young Leonard to learn from and grow with. Leonard has improved every year and has finally taken the reins from Duncan as the go-to guy in crunch time.

Leonard’s offensive skillset has improved each year he has been in the NBA and his numbers reflect that. He has averaged more points and assists and increased both his free throw and three-point percentage each season he’s been in the NBA. He also won a Finals MVP during the San Antonio Spurs’ 2014 championship run along the way.

Unfortunately for the Spurs, Duncan’s career has to come to an end eventually and Leonard will have to carry the load on his own. The Spurs have plenty to look forward to in the many years to come with Leonard on the roster.
