Names to Know

Brandon Jennings, Detroit Pistons

  • According to Marc Berman of The New York Postthe Detroit Pistons have made point guard Brandon Jennings available. Jennings is in the final stages of his recovery from Achilles tendon surgery, which is postponing any immediate action. Upon completing his NBA D-League assignment, however, he will return to the Pistons’ rotation. Assuming he performs well, it stands to reason that teams will make a move to acquire the 26-year-old. Jennings is in the final season of his three-year contract, making a manageable $8,344,497. If he plays at anything close to the level he did in 2014-15, when he nearly led the Detroit Pistons to the playoffs, expect multiple teams to pursue the borderline All-Star.

Kevin Martin, Minnesota Timberwolves

  • Jon Krawczynski of The Associated Press reports that the Minnesota Timberwolves are shopping shooting guard Kevin Martin. Martin averaged 19.1 points per game in 2013-14 and tallied 20.0 in 2014-15, but has struggled out of the gates in 2015-16. There have been encouraging signs—he had a three-game stretch of 37, 22 and 19 points between December 9 and 13—but the inconsistency creates some reason for pause. As tends to be the case, talent should prevail. He’s a sharpshooter who knows how to get to the line. He’s also due just $7,377,500 under a rising salary cap in 2016-17. Martin has value to any team in need of instant offense.
