Atlanta Hawks: R2-D2

About a year ago, the Atlanta Hawks were an underrated, necessary part of the NBA playoff picture. They won 60 games and made it to the Eastern Conference Finals before bowing out to a more important character in the grand scheme of things. Sounds just like everyone’s favorite astro droid, right?

Over the last few years, the Hawks have established themselves as a sort of “ol’ reliable” team in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. They’re not good enough to carry the plot by themselves, but nobody minds their presence and they bring joy to the screen every now and then, just like the delightful R2-D2.

However, with the loss of DeMarre Carroll, Atlanta has taken a backseat this year, much like R2-D2 seems to be taking a backseat to the new and ultra-popular B-88. Atlanta is still capable of reminding people why they fell in love with them in the first place, but that fan support just isn’t in full effect like it once was.
