3. Fo’ Fo’ Fo’ Fo’

With the recent passing of Moses Malone, an appropriate tribute to one of the league’s greatest players of all time would be for some team to find a way to storm through the playoffs with 16 straight wins and become the first team in NBA history to go “Fo’ Fo’ Fo’ Fo’.” If there were any team that could accomplish that kind of gargantuan task, it’d be this Golden State Warriors squad.

  • Back then, it only took 12 wins to win the title, which is why Malone’s promise was “Fo’ Fo’ Fo'” instead of “Fo’ Fo’ Fo’ Fo’.” The closest any team has come to going undefeated in the postseason since the playoffs expanded to 16 teams was the 2000-01 Lakers, who went 15-1 en route to the title. But even they didn’t have to win four seven-game series, with the first round being a best-of-five back then.

Last year, the Warriors looked vulnerable at times during the playoffs. They trailed the Memphis Grizzlies 2-1 in their second round series before winning three straight, and that also happened in the NBA Finals against a shorthanded Cleveland Cavaliers team.

But this year’s Warriors team is playing with even more confidence and swagger. They know what it takes to win games, they’ve executed well in late-game situations in close contests and even when the defense tightens up in the postseason, their likely home-court advantage will help make this feat a little more possible.

Going a perfect 16-0 is extremely tough to do, and there’s a reason it’s never been done before. But if there’s one thing we know about these Warriors, it’s that they somehow always find a way to live up to the ever-increasing hype.
