If we’ve learned anything from the first week of NBA action, it’s that the field for the league’s Most Improved Player of the Year Award is going to be a crowded one this year.

In Rip City, C.J. McCollum has joined Damian Lillard in shredding opposing backcourts with his hot shooting. In the Motor City, Andre Drummond is devouring rebounds as the NBA’s next Dwight Howard. But up in Wisconsin, one top candidate for the award has flown under the radar, mostly because the Milwaukee Bucks have gotten off to a slow start.

But make no mistake about it: Giannis Antetokounmpo is making the leap this season, and “flown” is absolutely the most accurate word to describe his takeoff:

At 2-3, the Bucks aren’t exactly showing the world that they’re still going to be a playoff team. But based on Antetokounmpo’s eye-opening start to the 2015-16 campaign, it looks like he’s ready for his breakout season at the tender age of 20.
