The young NBA season took a strange twist for the Miami Heat on Wednesday morning.  According to the Miami Herald, police were summoned to the residence of guard Gerald Green around 11 a.m. due to a disturbance that Green himself was causing, and he was hospitalized for reasons that are yet not publicly known.

Also per the Herald, Green was behaving strangely and screaming at the top of his lungs in the lobby of his condo. The Herald goes on to detail the incident:

"Multiple witnesses at the condo told TMZ that Green “was acting strange in the lobby of the condo … screaming at the top of his lungs.”TMZ said it was by told by several people “that there was a huge commotion and it took several people — including emergency personnel — to restrain Green and get him on a stretcher and into an ambulance.”"

In spite of the fact that the Miami police were called to the scene, no arrests were made. According to Miami Police Detective Frederica Burden:

"“No Miami Heat players have been arrested, and there are no active City of Miami Police investigations into any Heat players at all,” Burden said.Responding to Internet rumors, Burden added: “No one was Tased, and no one was Baker Acted. Fire-Rescue called for our assistance because of problems with a patient. But we don’t know what those problems were.”"

Green’s teammate Mario Chalmers was at the scene, and accompanied Green in the ambulance to the hospital and stayed with him through the afternoon.

Green was out of the lineup on Tuesday against the Atlanta Hawks with an undisclosed illness, which may or may not end up having some bearing on this mystery. Green has no documented history of mental illness, and aside from a $25,000 fine last month for making “menacing gestures on the playing court” in the preseason has had no disciplinary issues either.

You can see the gestures in the aforementioned scenario in the tweet below:

Green has had a slow start to the season after coming out guns blazing in the preseason. He’s averaging 10 points and less than a rebound and an assist, while playing about 21 minutes per game, and shooting just 32.3 percent from the floor.

In this situation, his on-court play is secondary, and his health is primary. With very little information coming out surrounding the circumstances of the events leading to Green’s hospitilization, all we can do is hope that he’ll be back healthy sooner than later.
