The Knicks Aren’t Terrible, and Carmelo Anthony Isn’t Overrated

Pro tip: Do not call a player that is better than you overrated as he may then come to your house and burn it to the ground.

Jared Dudley made the mistake of calling Carmelo Anthony the most overrated player in the league and that served as a motivator for 37 points in the New York Knicks 117-110 victory over the Washington Wizards.

"“Oh yeah, it got back to me,” Anthony said when asked about Dudley’s comments. “Definitely got back to me. I might not look at it and read all that stuff but it gets back to me.”"

ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk caught up with Melo after the game and he admitted the comments were a motivator.

The win is the Knicks second over a playoff team from last season, putting New York’s record at 2-1. Their only loss came to another playoff team in the form of the Atlanta Hawks on the tail end of a back-to-back.

Every piece of writing this time of year should come with the disclaimer of small sample size but so far the Knicks are playing like a real, cohesive team that has a plan and is executing it. The Knicks brought in older and more savvy players like Arron Afflalo and Robin Lopez that know how to win.

The season is young but it looking like the Knicks will get out of the NBA’s cellar and be more competitive than we’ve seen in recent year.
