The 2015-16 Rookie of the Year race could prove to be one of the most interesting and competitive in recent memory.

Headlined by a slew of potential franchise cornerstones, including the Minnesota Timberwolves’ big man Karl-Anthony Towns, Los Angeles Lakers’ floor general of the future D’Angelo Russell, the Philadelphia 76ers’ offensively dominant Jahlil Okafor, and the Denver Nuggets’ Emmanuel Mudiay, it’s hard to make a claim for any one guy running away as the clear-cut frontrunner at any point in the season.

But ultimately, the Rookie of the Year race is essentially a numbers game, and for 26 of the past 27 years, one simple formula has held true:
