The Key Statistic

The temptation was to return to the low PER scores here, but Fournier’s movement on the court last season was interesting to look at. Fournier averaged two miles a game, right around the league average for a guard. Of that time spent moving on the court, 1.1 miles were racked up on the offensive end, with the remaining 0.9 coming while working for his team defensively.

Now, that’s a pretty even breakdown of his time spent moving on the court.

So why then was he so bad defensively for this team? The numbers show us Fournier is at least making the effort on that end and not expending all of his energy offensively. That’s fairly even distribution of energy. Clearly then Fournier doesn’t possess the necessary skill set or abilities to make a difference defensively, despite being active on that end.

If he could only improve how he approaches his defensive assignments and couple that with an already notable work rate, he could turn into a player of note on that end of the court.
