Can The Kings Turn Chaos In A Miracle?

In the movie Watchmen, a character with the power to save the world named Dr. Manhattan marvels at the revelation that his love interest, the woman trying to convince him to save the world, is a walking miracle who was conceived by her mother and a man who once tried to force himself on her. “To distill so specific a form, from all that chaos,” he says. “It’s like turning air into gold. A miracle.”

This is exactly what the Sacramento Kings are trying to do in 2015-16: turn a chaotic situation into something beautiful. Over the summer, the Kings continued their decade-long trend of chaotic activity, making a series of baffling moves to surround DeMarcus Cousins with talent and give head coach George Karl the kind of roster he wants to play with.

That included: signing former Denver Nugget Kosta Koufos, drafting defensive frontcourt partner/potential Boogie replacement Willie Cauley-Stein, adding the embattled Rajon Rondo, acquiring sharpshooter Marco Belinelli and salary dumping Nik Stauskas in an epic fail move to Philly.

The Kings are a better roster on paper, but all summer long we listened to reports about how bad Karl’s relationship with Boogie was. Just recently, Rondo “joked” about how he’s already been arguing with Karl. That kind of stuff just doesn’t go away, and if things go south for this team early on, tempers and drama will derail Sacramento’s faint hopes of competing for one of those final playoff spots in the West.
