What Do The Bucks Look Like After Landing Monroe?

The Greg Monroe signing this summer was a huge, surprising moment for a Milwaukee Bucks franchise that’s been irrelevant for a decade now. But even with the arrival of a double-double machine who can boost Milwaukee’s offense with his skill set, the argument could be made that Jason Kidd’s team won’t be that much better with him onboard.

For one thing, Milwaukee’s identity is based in its defense, which was the second ranked unit in the league last year. That could be a problem with Monroe playing center, given that he’s a defensive sieve who is flat-footed and has struggled to defend the rim early in his career.

He’s only 25, so he’s not done growing as a player, but Kidd will have to surround Monroe with size and figure out how to compensate for those deficiencies. If the Bucks can use him as a bailout option on offense and hide him on defense, Milwaukee has a real shot to improve on their 41-41 record last year. But if they can’t, they’re in danger of falling out of a playoff spot.
