3. Steve Kerr’s Health

To be completely honest, Steve Kerr would’ve had my vote for Coach of the Year last season if I had one. Mike Budenholzer may have had less to work with in Atlanta, but you don’t often see 67-win seasons from rookie head coaches in this league.

In 2015-16, Kerr will probably be more than deserving once again — provided he can make it back to the court soon. Kerr is currently on a leave of absence for recovery and rehabilitation following back surgery. That’s right folks, Luke Walton is not only the interim head coach of an NBA team, but the defending champs at that.

Walton has built a great reputation as a solid assistant coach during his time on the sidelines, but let’s be perfectly frank: the Warriors need Steve Kerr back and unhindered by his health problems for this team to repeat. Kerr should be ready to coach for the team’s season opener on Oct. 27, but you just never know with these kinds of things, so it needed to be mentioned.
