5. Injury Luck

Technically speaking, you could say that injury luck is a deciding factor for title contenders every year. It’s well known by now that it takes a little luck to win a title, which was never more apparent when the Dubs enjoyed such great fortune with their health, while a team like the Oklahoma City Thunder was riddled with injury problems and missed the playoffs altogether.

But injury luck is especially vital for the defending champs, who have an injury-prone player in Andrew Bogut and aging players like Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston.

However, Iggy and Livingston stayed healthy for the majority of last season and there’s good news on the Bogut front as well:

Only Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are absolutely essential for Golden State’s hopes for repeating, but with the West as tough as ever, the Warriors need to have the same kind of favorable health they enjoyed last year.
