Chicago Bulls: 5 Early Takeaways From Training Camp
Jimmy Butler bet on himself prior to the start of last season when he turned down a multi-year deal worth approximately $44 million. What was the result? Butler went on to have the best season of his young career, and he inked a five-year, $95 million deal during the offseason.
And while it may be tempting for a player to rest on his laurels on the heels of such a large payday, that certainly has not been the case with Butler. Not only is the fifth-year player showing up to the gym early each morning, he is also playing with a great deal of intensity.
Butler’s desire to win has not only impressed his teammates, but his new head coach as well, per CSN Chicago’s Vincent Goodwill:
"“I knew Jimmy was good (before). But he’s been awesome. He’s so strong right now. He’s in great shape and another guy where the amount of work he put in in the summer is paying off. “He’s probably in the best shape of anybody out here. He’s all over the floor, offensively, defensively. There aren’t a lot of two-way players in this league but he’s definitely one of them.”"
Although Butler does not believe this is one person’s team, his demeanor has definitely set the tone for a team that has championship aspirations. And if his teammates follow his lead, the Bulls have the potential to be a dangerous team, barring any significant injuries of course.
