The Philadelphia 76ers added another player to their horde of talent in training camp, as shooting guard Jordan McRae signed a one-year contract tender, per Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania.
Originally, it was expected that McRae would reject his contract tender and become a free agent. Joining a deep rotation of shooting guards, McRae is coming into a situation filled with competition and angst to compete.

The 24-year-old two guard caps the team’s roster at the 20-man limit before they eventually trim it to 15 for the regular season. Stakes are high for the former second-round pick out of Tennessee.
McRae brings a trait absent from the shooting guard rotation already in place. One of the best international and D-League scorers last season, McRae has shown the tendency to get buckets no matter the league or defense he’s up against.
In 13 games with the Delaware 87ers last season, McRae scored 18.7 points per game on 45.5 percent shooting from the floor. Unlike Nik Stauskas and Hollis Thompson, McRae is a scorer first and a shooter second.
Philadelphia ranked No. 24 overall in points from their shooting guards last season, as the group only shot 40 percent from the floor. The addition of Stauskas will boost a talent lacking SG rotation, but McRae provides a much needed punch off the bench as a microwave-like role player.
Per Liberty Ballers’ Jake Pavorsky, if Philadelphia decides to let go of McRae, he will become a free agent. The second-year player has an obstacle ahead of him trying to make a young team filled with others eager to start off the season in the NBA.
With playing time open for those on the 2015-16 team, there’s an extra incentive for McRae to exude necessary passion that will achieve his goals.
