Michael Holyfield

Holyfield went undrafted this June after playing four years at Sam Houston State.

The 6’11”, 270-pound center was never much of an offensive threat, as he scored 8.5 points per game and made 60 percent from the field on only 5.2 shots per game as a senior.

His value to the Bearkats lied on the defensive end. He won the 2015 Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year award after blocking 2.5 shots per game and holding a 76.1 defensive rating, per Real GM.

Holyfield was a minor contributor on the Grizzlies’ Summer League team, averaging 6.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game. He also played a game at the Las Vegas Summer League for the Boston Celtics, scoring two points and grabbing a rebound.

The 22-year-old showed in Summer League he can give a solid defensive effort, but will need more work developing post moves in the D-League before having the offensive capacity to make it with an NBA team.
